Weekly Report

Munchkin is home from preschool today so we are getting a taste of what it will be like to have her home full-time and honestly, I can't wait. The driving we do twice a day will NOT be missed. I am relaxed, we're not rushed, and we can have lunch without watching the clock. Yippee! Our plan is to pull her out of her school at the end of December, but I still need to talk with the director, which I'm not looking foward to at all. (sigh)

This week in the school house...

Math: Sweet Pea breezed through Geometry lessons this week, completing another 5 with no problem at all. She also did some BJU practice pages to keep her speed up in that area. Cupcake is practicing 2-digit mental addition in RS math. We also played some card games this week.

Grammar: Sweet Pea is working through R&S, completing the next 4 lessons this week, as well as working on a book report draft from a recent lesson. Revisions are being done as I type. Cupcake worked through several FLL lessons this week, and we have memorized the list of helping verbs. Aaah, the clapping routine brings it all back from when I did these a few years ago... She is also working on illustrating the months poem and is up to June. Finally, she copied "The Wind" by Robert Louis Stevenson and is working at memorizing it.

Writing: Since grammar has so much writing this week, we have little to add. Sweet Pea wrote a one-paragraph response to a painting of Yosemite Valley from co-op. She pretended to be there and write a letter back home to family in the east. We are working on IEW dress-ups in co-op class, so she added those as well. Cupcake wrote a couple paragraphs about city life vs. country life after reading "The Little House" in co-op class. She added dress-ups to this and did a great job.

TOG: This week is all about the 20's so we spent some time reading about jazz musicians and listening online, via http://www.rhapsody.com/. We enjoyed some Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Billie Holiday. The Tapestry website had some valuable links for this as well. We also looked at photos of flapper styles & read about Babe Ruth and the "curse of the Bambino" which I had to add to the story since it's more of a Boston issue than a history book element. :)

Latin: More Prima Latina this week that we do together. Enjoying the learning at this relaxed pace. We've been in a pattern of one lesson per week (done in 1-2 days at most) and then daily review.

Memory work: Using the memory box system, we have daily review of Bible verses, and we try to add more using Sunday School lessons, Explorer's study lessons, and other studies we do that incorporate scripture. In a second box, we keep all our Latin words, plus TOG related words for geography and history. This is working well and provides an efficient way to track what words we are learning.

The weather has been so mild that we have tried to spend time outdoors enjoying the fall foliage too!
